Can anyone explain to me why white, white-collar criminals, no matter how much money they have stolen, or how many department regulations they have violated, or articles of the Constitution they have subverted, rarely spend much, if any, time in jail?
I mean people like the as-yet untortured and free-on-bail Bernie Madoff, those coke whores at the Minerals Management Service, and now Bradley Schlozman.
Has accountability moved to Tahiti?
The Washington Post reports:
“The department’s inspector general and Office of Professional Responsibility concluded that Bradley J. Schlozman violated civil service laws and made false statements about his activities to Congress in 2007, but federal prosecutors in the District declined to pursue a criminal perjury case against him.”
That’s right, our nation’s Justice Dept have decided that this sort of thing is merely tacky, not legally actionable:
“A former Justice Department official entrusted with enforcing civil rights laws refused to hire lawyers whom he labeled as “commies” and transferred another attorney for allegedly writing in “ebonics” and benefiting from “an affirmative action thing,” according to an investigation released yesterday by internal watchdogs.”
If anyone wants me, I’ll be in the shed crafting a come-lately Ponzi scheme that targets pasty Bush appointees…
