Overeager Kansans Rally for National Obama Holiday

Prudence and I make no attempts to hide our respect and adoration for the new President-elect Obama. We know him to be a man of honor and integrity–one who will roll back the national practice of rewarding corporate interests at the expense of average middle class American citizens, one who will base his decisions on factual evidence and rational reasoning rather than relying on the broken calculus of ideology, wealth, political power, and a desire to consolidate and expand executive reach.

But despite our overwhelming excitement for his election, even we think it may be a bit premature to start lobbying for a national holiday to commemorate it.

However, I am immensely enjoying the wave of outrage spreading through the rightwing nutjobosphere as news of some two-bit Kansas outfit with Obama-holiday aspirations energizes their peculiar brand of crazy.  A round-up after the jump…….

First, I suppose we should review why the “Bias Busters” of Topeka, Kansas want to lobby for a national Obama holiday.

“The reason why I want to have this holiday is because it marks the day America grew up,” said Sonny Scroggins, founder and president of Bias Busters of Kansas, the organization pushing for the holiday.

Scroggins told World Nut Daily that for too long America has focused on the legacy of slavery, but Obama’s election shows that integrity and honor mean more than race and gender to our nation.

Referring to the overwhelming majority of young voters that cast ballots for Obama, Scroggins said, “The children, thirty-something and below, they put America on the right path, a path of liberty, justice, freedom, and equality for all.

“We’re not going to deny the heritage of America – it’s black, it’s white, red, yellow,” Scroggins told WND. “Obama is white and black. He represents the best of both worlds.”

The inimitible Michelle Malkin says that you can’t oppose the Obama holiday without appearing “RAAAAAAAAAAAAACIST,” though I’d point out to Michelle that if so much of her writing didn’t have a race-hating tinge to it, she could object to the holiday (and indeed to Obama and his policies) without creating such an impression.

The Amerpundit says these actions go beyond infatuation into worship, asking “Is this scaring anyone else?”  If Amerpundit gets scared by the overly-enthusiastic ideas of a tiny group of liberals in Kansas, he really needs to get out more.

Sal at the Axis of Right doesn’t seem to be a fan of cake: “Seriously, this is getting sick. I have never seen or heard of this kind of adulation of an American politician.  This must be resisted at all costs, or we’ll all be forced to eat Obama Cake for the next eight years and possibly beyond if the Republicans cannot reassert Conservatism and counter the liberal onslaught.”

Max Conservative is encouraging people to continue celebrating The One, writing that “the higher his deciples build the pedistal, the farther he’ll fall.”

I’m glad that this little group in Kansas has given the rightwing bloggers and radio hosts something irrelevant to rant about. It would be so much less entertaining to read their blogs if they dealt in substance and evinced any level of understanding about policy matters, the economy, national security, etc.
